Various Artists-Sex-O-Rama (Oglio)

I always think I can't be surprised anymore by what they put out on CD, then some label comes along and throws me. Well, it will be tough to top Sex-O-Rama.

This album is made up of the instrumental music that made up the background in a series of classic ('70's and '80's) porn films. Everything from the pseudo-Shaft wocka wocka guitar and erotic drums of "Debbie Does Dallas" to the pseudo-Shaft wocka wocka guitar and erotic drums of "Behind The Green Door," these are songs to hump by.

The music is swinging, just dated enough to sound campy, but, frankly, melodies in porn films are only slightly more important than the movies' scripts. Oh, and a warning for purists – if there are any out there – these aren't the originals, but current rerecordings.

Sex-O-Rama is a funny idea, and it'll be great for parties, but I can't imagine anyone listening to it regularly. (5/97)
